Among hostesses there can be a lot of tension and problems, as women often compete for male customers’ attention. Intra-gender dynamics can sometimes lead to complex and sometimes tense situations. To mitigate these problems, some Tokyo Kyabakura clubs employ four “mama-san” to tell the girls what to do when these issues arise. This type of service helps to keep the peace among the staff and customers alike. In contrast, Osaka Kyabakura is an illegal establishment which is not open to the public like other establishments in Japan.
